The Complutense University of Madrid welcomes you to its attractive, storied campus. For more than five hundred years the University has been the alma mater of the most influential figures in Spain’s economic, social, political and cultural life.
The Complutense is among the world’s most prestigious universities, and this prestige is due not only to the history of the university but also to its current reality. Few universities in Europe or Latin America have the wealth of teaching excellence and research potential or the educational offering of the Complutense University and even fewer maintain such a demanding pace of innovation.
The 78 official degrees awarded by the University Departments cover practically all areas of knowledge and make the Complutense the University’s offering the most comprehensive in Spain and one of the widest in Europe. The quality of our degree studies is assured by more than 6,000 members of the teaching staff appointed after a rigorous selection process and almost 4,000 administrative and auxiliary staff, all of whom strive to ensure that the UCM continues to be a public university of the highest quality.
This quality includes an IT infrastructure designed to facilitate remote access to many different services from the moment of enrolment. The twenty six departments of the Complutense are all part of the Virtual Campus, a vital support tool for face-to-face teaching, and wireless access is now widely available on campus.
But the quality of a university is not measured only in terms of the degrees and services offered. The quality university experience implies the fostering of values and attitudes which shape true intellectual and personal development, preparing and enabling individuals in terms of their future professional activity and ensuring that this professional activity will be ethically responsible. The UCM is firmly committed to these values and is ready to respond to the educational challenge they imply.
The Complutense also offers a wide range of cultural, sporting and leisure activities to encourage students to take part in campus life and develop critical reflection, tolerance, solidarity and a capacity for co-operation and commitment.
